Ugna TempleThe temple of Ugna Mahadeo is located in Bhawanipur village of Madhubani District. As per folklores it is believed that Lord Shiva appeared at this location along with Kavi Vidyapati who was a great poet of Maithili Language. Lord Shiva appeared in the form of Ugna, who was the servant of Vidyapati and presented him with gangajal. Devotees from far & wide come to this temple to seek blessings of Lord Shiva.
Uchhaith TempleThe famous Uchhaith Temple is in Uchhaith, Madhubani District and is an important religious place for the devotees. The temple is dedicated to the Goddess Durga, who after witnessing the complete dedication & commitment of Kalidas the renowned poet of those times blessed him with knowledge here. It is said that Goddess Durga was very impressed by the devotion of this Sanskrit poet. People coming to Madhubani make it a point to pay homage at this sacred temple.
Somnath Mahadev Temple /SaurathSaurath is a small village located at a distance of nearly 6 kms north east of Madhubani town in Bihar. The place is famous because thousands of Maithil Brahaman gathers here to fix marriages every year during the months of Jyestha-Aasadh or the marriage season. Here at Saurath Sabha Gachchhi marriages of Maithil boys & girls are fixed as per horoscope readings done by the Panjikars. The then Maharaja of Darbhanga donated an orchard having 22 bighas of land for this annual gathering as a goodwill gesture. The place thus attracts hundreds of visitors every year.
Kapileswarsthan TempleThe temple of Kapileswarsthan is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is known for the celebrations organised here during the shravan months. The Maha-shivratri Fair organised here is also very popular and is attended by hundreds of devotees from nearby villages and towns. Besides this devotees flock to this temple every Monday to offer prayers to Lord Shiva.
Kapileshwar TempleSituated in Kakraul at Rahika, Madhubani the temple has a lot of followers. It is believed that the archaic saga – Kapil placed Shiva Linga at this place and a temple was constructed to worship the same. For many years the Darbanga Royal Family looked after the temple, which is now managed by the local trust.
Nagar Fort (Nau Lakha Palace)Present in the town of Rajnagar near to Madhubani this fort or palace was built by Maharaja Rameshwar Singh of Darbhanga. Kamala River flows close to the palace. The palace was destroyed by an earthquake in 1934 and now lies in relics. It has never been restructured but still has prominent historical value and a must-visit for historians and history-enthusiasts.
